Who needs an e-Label?
With Regulation (EU) 2021/2117, new labeling obligations for allergens, ingredients, and nutritional values apply to wines. No one needs an e-Label if all necessary information is indicated in all necessary languages on the bottle's label. The e-Label offers the opportunity to provide this information digitally.
Who does Glasswise offer its e-Label solution to?
Glasswise is aimed at all vintners who sell wine in the EU and must fulfill the labeling obligations according to Regulation (EU) 2021/2117.
Does Glasswise offer more than meeting labeling obligations?
Yes, we believe that added value can be created beyond the QR label path. Use the representation of your wine via “Scan with Glasswise” and tell your story the way you want to tell it.
I don't know how long my wines are on the market - how does Glasswise handle this?
Glasswise offers a wine-long guarantee: only you determine when your digital labels should no longer be available. We ensure their availability.
How do I get the necessary QR code?
After you have created a wine, you will receive an email with a link to your high-resolution, printable QR code that you can print on the label.
Can I first print out the QR code and upload the information later?
You can add, change or delete all information later. Data sovereignty rests unequivocally with you. We support you in meeting the legal minimum requirements.
I've already purchased a QR code software, but I want to switch to Glasswise. How do I go about it?
Switching to Glasswise is very easy. If your current provider uses a URL shortener like Bit.ly, your existing QR codes can be reused without any issues. As part of the onboarding process, we will handle the data transfer for you at no extra cost. If you switch during the year and have already paid for another service, we offer Glasswise for free until the end of the year so you don't have to pay twice.
What does an e-Label include?
An e-Label includes, in addition to the nutritional table, a unique product identifier and a list of all ingredients, including allergens. Optional certifications and additional information can also be added to provide extra value to the customer.
Does Glasswise support the Italian packaging regulation?
Yes, with Glasswise your e-Labels are fully compliant with the Italian packaging regulation.
Can I try out Glasswise?
Yes. You can try out Glasswise for free. Membership is only required when you wish to receive the QR codes as a print template.
Which products need to have an e-Label?
There is no legal obligation to use an e-Label. However, it serves as a convenient alternative to traditional labels, both online and on printed materials.
When does the EU directive for wine labels come into effect?
The EU directive takes effect on December 8, 2023. Wines bottled and distributed after this date must include the new labeling. Individual countries may have additional transition periods.
Do older wines also need to be labeled?
No, wines bottled before December 8, 2023, are exempt from the new regulations.
How large should the QR code be on the label?
The QR code should be sized so that it can be scanned by all common devices. Generally, a size of 1cm x 1cm is sufficient.
How long must the e-Label be available?
The e-Label must be accessible as long as the product is available in stores.
How do I obtain the values for the nutritional table?
Glasswise calculates the necessary values for the nutritional table based on a lab report that includes information on alcohol content, acidity, and residual sugar. No separate lab analysis is required.
What does “automatically translated” mean?
Information for ingredients and nutrients is automatically translated into all EU languages and displayed according to the target audience. For descriptive texts, we use qualified language models and artificial intelligence. You can replace these translations at any time with your own.
Where must the nutritional table be accessible?
The nutritional table must be accessible not only on the label but also in the online store and on all printed materials.
Why is the appearance of the e-Label so important?
The design of your e-Label, just like that of your winery, your labels, and your website, shapes how your brand is perceived. A well-designed e-Label makes a strong first impression and keeps your digital touchpoints at the quality standard of your brand. Online, first impressions count even more.
Can I get a custom design for my e-Label at Glasswise?
Yes, Glasswise offers a service for custom e-Label design. Our aim is for your e-Label to complement your brand. That means an attractive design that reflects the values and character of your winery. With a custom design, your digital touchpoints are as distinctive and high-quality as your wine.
Why can't QR codes on e-Labels just link to PDFs of the wine product data sheet?
QR codes on e-Labels must not simply link to PDFs of the wine product data sheet because this approach does not meet the necessary legal requirements for accessibility and immediate availability of information.s
What is a marketing QR code?
A marketing QR code is a dynamic QR code for everything beyond your legal e-Label: packaging, ads, flyers, tasting menus or events. Because it is dynamic, you can change its destination at any time without reprinting the code. You can redirect it to your website, shop or a campaign page, optionally send scanners from different countries to different pages, and attach UTM tags so every scan and campaign shows up in your analytics. The Glasswise E-Label package includes 1 marketing QR code, and Glasswise Pro includes 25.
Does Glasswise support the PPWR packaging operator details?
Yes. You can record the packaging manufacturer and the packaging importer on your e-Label, alongside the bottler and the distributor. The fields follow Regulation (EU) 2025/40: name, registered trade name or registered trademark, postal address, and the electronic contact where you have one. Article 15(6) lets the manufacturer give those details on the packaging or through a QR code, so your e-Label QR code carries them. For importers, Article 18(3) asks for the details on the packaging itself and allows a data carrier only where that is not possible. Plan your print run around that. What we do not do is file your EPR registration or sign your declaration of conformity.
